Ways to Donate to CAS

The Board of Directors have been discussing ways to raise funds. Costs of maintenance of the Thomas Conway Observatory and the Mildred Hunter Astrophotography Lab, updating equipment, and providing quality programs are escalating at a rate that our treasury can barely handle. Fortunately, we have a couple of members that have gotten CAS donations through programs at their places of work and for that, we are extremely grateful. But looking ahead, we are still in dire need of funding. Recently, we have instituted two programs that might generate needed revenue. But your help is needed to spread the word.

The first of these programs is the Smile program provided by Amazon.com. This can be used by anyone that purchases items from Amazon. Here's how it works. When you want to purchase something from Amazon, go to smile.amazon.com and sign into your account. If you haven't already indicated your charity as Calumet Astronomical Society go to your account page and you'll find a way to change/pick your charity. That's all there is to it. Then when you purchase something, a half of one percent is donated to CAS. NOTE: it comes from Amazon and is not added to your purchase price. I know a half percent isn't a lot, but it will add up. If you can get family and friends to shop at Amazon this way, all the better.

The second program is one we've just actuated. It uses the "go fund me" website to seek donations. You can access our gofundme page by going to the following link: gofundme.com/d9xpkg. The title of the page is Eyes on the Sky. Even if you are not in a position to make a donation, you can help CAS by sharing this link with family and friends using your social media pages. I've shared this link with my friends on Facebook, Twitter, and Google +. Encourage your social media friends to donate and/or share this information with their social media friends. Hopefully, the number of people exposed to this page will grow rapidly and spur lots of donations. Thanks for your help and consideration.

Direct Donation:
You can avoid using the Go Fund Me site and make a donation directly to the Calumet Astronomical Society. Simply make out a check to the Calumet Astronomical Society and mail it to:

Employer Donations:
Some employers, such as BP, will make donations to non-for-profit organisations in their employee's name. Check with your employer and see if they provide this type of charitable donation.
